Hackathon: TALE

Četvrtak
03.04.2025.

We are inviting you to join Hackathon: TALE, a three-day event where you will design and prototype new ways to experience literary stories!

Just like traditional paperbacks or hardcovers, we still value text and put it in center stage, but this time with a twist, in a completely new format. So, the goal is to design and prototype new ways to experience literary stories. How can we achieve this? Well, it is up to you!

We are talking typography, background design, margins, and breaks between paragraphs or chapters. But further on: sound, haptics, smart lighting, and other elements. And all of it to deepen the reading experience!

So, if you are a programmer, designer, UX person, literary editor, translator, or just a person with a deep interest in reading, books, and stories, AND you have an idea od what would be the digital equivalent of "turning the page" or "smelling the book", then you are a perfect match!

Sounds interesting? Apply here! The deadline is April 30th!

Who can apply?

Hackathon: TALE is inviting programmers, designers, students, startup founders, literary editors, translators, critics, artists, IT professionals and enthusiasts!  Competitors will be grouped into multidisciplinary teams at this unique hackathon. With the support of experts and in small groups, the goal is to illustrate how text can transcend mere words to become an engaging experience that captivates all five senses and leaves a lasting impression. All participants will receive three texts that need to be creatively and digitally designed. Whether in a new type of digital book, an innovative reader app, or whatever the group comes up with!

When and where?

May 16th to 18th.

May 16th at Booksa, Martićeva 14D, Zagreb.

My 17th and 18th at ZICER – Zagreb innovation centre, Avenija Dubrovnik 15, pavillion 12, 1. floor, Zagreb.

The detailed agenda is here.

What can you win?

The best teams will win prizes from a valuable prize pool. Prize fund of 3000 euro will be distributed for 3 top teams. All Hackathon: TALE participants will be given symbolic gifts, as well as enjoy mentoring support, refreshments and have the opportunity for productive and good time.
